Sponsored by National Trust
This award was open to any tourism business in Carmarthenshire which, as well as offering a quality visitor experience, also maximises its positive impact on the environment and local area
Sustainable tourism is more than just being 'green'. Unlike eco or green tourism, sustainable tourism addresses social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. For tourism to be sustainable we must ensure that the long-term needs of communities, visitors and the environment are taken into account.
Judges looked for a business that has excelled or made improvements in the following areas and which communicates its commitment, to its visitors and potential customers:
- energy management
- water and waste management
- sustainable transport
- supporting and promoting local economy, culture and heritage
- protecting and improving the local environment including nature and wildlife
In 2015 we decided to give it a go and entered this award. This was the first time we had ever entered anything. We were very pleased we were in the finals and on the day were thrilled to be given a Silver Award. It was challenging entering the competition which required a 500 submission plus lots of extra evidence. In addition two judges came round and interviewed me and looked around the barn itself.
